Perhaps Sting's latest injury is a sign that he waited too long to join the WWE.

"The Vigilante" faced Seth Rollins in just his second major match in the WWE at Night of Champions Sunday in Texas, coming up short in the booking and even shorter in the health department. There were multiple reports that Sting suffered a serious neck injury at the event, an ailment so perilous that doctors have no long-term diagnosis as of yet, leading to the question of why the hell he's still wrestling in the first place.

7 Potential Matches For WWE Hell In A Cell

Sting has had a tremendous, storybook career and it has been great to see him finally come over to the WWE, but he's 56. FIFTY SIX. The six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, who is also a TNA Hall of Famer, had ample opportunities to join the WWE when he was younger, but for whatever reason he kept backing out and refused to become a part of Vince McMahon's promotion.

WCW went under in 2001, Sting didn't surface in the WWE until over 13 years later when he made his debut at the Survivor Series last November. That led to his match with Triple H at WrestleMania 31, which was overbooked, but fun for nostalgic fans. That is probably where his WWE career should have ended, though most people are still very disappointed at him being booked to lose.

Kurt Angle's Brother Arrested For Murdering His Wife

Sunday night against Rollins, it was admirable to see Sting try and keep up with the young WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but it was also obvious at points that "The Vigilante" was winded throughout the bout, perhaps a sign of his age. There is a belief that Sting's injury occurred when Rollins delivered the Buckle Bomb to him in the contest.

The unfortunate health scare could be just a freak mishap, but it could also be a sign that Sting needs to hang up his wrestling boots -- if it's still up to him.

Sting's failure to come over to the WWE in the 13 years since Ted Turner's company closed its doors could end up being one of his true regrets. He missed the Invasion angle in 2001, and failed to have an opportunity to capture some magic with the best talent the WWE has to offer while still in his prime.

When the WWE first nabbed Sting, it was believed he would face The Undertaker, but the company ran with a Sting-Triple H program before his feud with Rollins, while The Undertaker has worked with Bray Wyatt and Brock Lesnar. There was some hope for a WrestleMania 32 clash, but everything is up in the air with Sting's injured neck.

It was amazing to see Sting finally cross the threshold into the WWE, but at age 56, it appears he waited too long to do so and now his career might be over.

"The Vigilante's" 2-2 WWE record may have come at a stinging cost.
