Geno Smith isn't happy, and he's not shying away from showing it. The Jets QB said Wednesday that he's frustrated his chances this season were derailed by a punch from former teammate IK Enemkpali.
"I'm extremely [angry]," Smith told Newsday. "But I have to keep my temper down. I can't exhibit that in the locker room, I can't exhibit that on a daily basis. I just feel for my family more because they enjoy seeing me out there."
The Smartest And Dumbest NFL QBs
Smith's family, however, did get to enjoy Ryan Fitzpatrick out there. The 32-year-old was 15-of-24 for 179 yards and two TDs in a 31-10 victory over the Browns.
His performance led many -- including Smith -- to question whether the starting role under center is permanently his.
"Whether it's my team or not, it's Woody's team. It's coach Bowles' team. And it's a trickle-down effect," said Smith. "You want to say, OK, it's Fitz's team? But that's kind of pinning me and him against each other."
Why Kurt Warner Deserves To Be In HOF Over Brett Favre
Even if the Jets are Fitzpatrick's team now, that shouldn't be the case once Smith returns. New York isn't Houston, and MetLife Stadium isn't NRG Stadium.
Fitzpatrick will eventually be asked to throw the football in cold-weather conditions, something he's struggled to do in the past.
Is Ryan Fitzpatrick really any better than Geno Smith? Are there so few QBs in the NFL these days?

Consider this, in his four seasons with the Bills -- forced to deal with Jack Frost in December or later -- Fitzpatrick finished with a 7-11 record, completing just 58 percent of his passes, per Pro Football Reference. His modest 20 TDs were overshadowed by a paltry 22 INTs.
It's no coincidence he set a career high in completion percentage (63.1) in a dome last season.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is obviously Santa Clause, look at that beard, he conveniently gets sat for december & he constantly gifts the defense INTs

There's no need for Smith to worry about losing his starting job. Eventually, Fitzpatrick will hand it back to him.
