Jordan Spieth is mortal after all. The two-time major champion spent most of the summer chasing history, but is losing the battle with the cut line in recent weeks. A 3-over 74 forced Spieth to miss his second consecutive cut on Saturday.

He's gone 61 consecutive holes without being under par.

"Whatever is going on...normally my mental game is a strength of mine," he said in disbelief, per PGATour.com. "And it's something I feel like I have an advantage over other players on. These past two weeks it was a weakness for me."

The same cannot be said for Hoffman. The 38-year-old grabbed the lead with an 8-under 63, and enters the weekend three strokes ahead of Brendon de Jonge.

"I came from a decent ways back, so I didn't have to deal with the lead," Hoffman said. "Anytime you are in the lead, you put a lot of pressure on yourself. And obviously I've got to deal with that tonight. Just try to keep doing what I'm doing, making a lot of putts and hitting a decent amount of fairways for me, which is a nice combo."
