The Cowboys are exploring a deal that would help them acquire running back Montee Ball from the Broncos. Or they're not.

Dallas has said they are happy with their platoon of Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar this offseason, but 104.3 The Fan's Vic Lombardi and 1430 AM Mile High Sports' Benjamin Albright both reported that the Cowboys have had contact with the Broncos concerning a Ball trade.

Colin Kaepernick Could Be Headed Down Same Path As RGIII

However, Fort Worth Star Telegram reporter Clarence Hill and NFL.com's Ian Rapoport both are reporting that nothing has been discussed between the teams concerning Ball, according to Profootballtalk.com.

The running back carried the ball 16 times for 27 yards during the Broncos' final preseason game against the Cardinals on Thursday night. So far in the preseason, Ball has 32 carries for 68 yards.

Tim Tebow's Final Preseason Game May Have Secured Roster Spot

Last season, Ball played in five games with three starts, gaining 172 yards on 55 carries for an average of 3.1 yards per carry. He was plagued by groin injuries for most of the season.

Ball had a much better rookie season when he rushed 120 times for 559 yards and caught 20 passes for 145 yards as a backup to Knowshon Moreno.

CBS Sports reported that the Cowboys already have traded their sixth-round draft pick in 2016 to the 49ers for blocking tight end Geoff Swain.

If the Cowboys are looking for a running back that averaged 3.1 yards per carry his last season, then look no further than former Ravens running back Ray Rice. His body should be fresh after taking the 2014 season off.

However, he does come with a little baggage and may pose a distraction to the team.
