Buffalo Bills Running Back C.J. Spiller Family Tragedy: Step-Grandfather Goes on Killing Spree Before Shooting Himself

A man identified as the step-grandfather of Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller shot four people in Northern Florida, killing two, and then killed himself Saturday.

Multiple media reports say Hubert Allen Jr. went to separate locations and shot two men at each site. Union County Sheriff Jerry Whitehead told Gainesville, Fla., ABC affiliate WCJB that Allen pulled the gun Saturday morning on the first victim, identified as David Griffis, at Pritchett Trucking near Lake Butler, Fla.

Allen is a former employee at Pritchett Trucking.

Griffis is listed in critical condition at a Gainesville hospital.

Allen then went to the ranch of the trucking company's owner. He shot and killed the owner, Marvin Pritchett, and a farmhand, which WCJB identified as Rolando Gonzalez.

The New York Daily News added that Allen also shot Lewis Mabry Jr., at some point during the day, but it was unclear when that happened.

Allen then went home and shot himself. A motive has yet to be discovered.

Spiller was with his team during Saturday's exhibition against the Washington Redskins. Spiller scored Buffalo's lone score on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. He finished with eight carries for 39 yards for the game.

It was not immediately known what Spiller knew of the tragedy before the game.

CBSSports.com published a series of tweets by Buffalo News reporter Tim Graham, who detailed Spiller's relationship with Allen.

"I've spent considerable time past few days speaking with C.J. Spiller about how his family has shaped who he is. I can't imagine."

"C.J. Spiller didn't really know his father until C.J. was 18. Hubert Allen was a key male figure in young C.J.'s life."

"An idea on how Spiller played today. He witnessed his Grandma Nettie (Allen's wife) draw her last breaths before school as 8th grader (1/2)"
