The Dallas Cowboys (1-2) are set to take on the Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) in a battle of Hard Knocks subjects in a Week 3 preseason tilt. The game can be live streamed here; Cowboys fans can listen to the broadcast for America's Team on 105.3 The Fan, while Bengals fans can hear their team roar on ESPN 1530.
Dallas has been a bit shaky this preseason, but the group entering 2013 is a veteran crew whose main goal is staying healthy for the regular season. Offensively, there are little to no serious position battles, and quarterback Tony Romo is armed with a multitude of weapons that could make the Cowboys' offense deadly.
Since the preseason is often about deciding which young players have a chance to significantly impact a team's fortunes in the regular season, Cowboys rookie center Travis Frederick is someone to watch. The Cowboys were ridiculed for "reaching" for him at No. 21 overall in the draft, but Cowboys beat writer David Moore says Frederick is coming along nicely.
"The rookie center is already making the line calls and has a presence about him," Moore said. "You rarely saw him get beat in practice."
For Bengals fans the man they're keeping an eye on will be rookie running back Giovani Bernard. BenJarvus Green-Ellis is still the starter for the Bengals, but Bernard has home run potential Green-Ellis can't provide. Bernard was far from stellar in Week 1, rushing 10 times for merely 28 yards. In Week 2, though, Bernard toted the rock seven times but chewed up 37 yards on the ground and hit paydirt along the way.
He also has four receptions for 38 yards this preseason, proving his value as a third-down back who can reel in passes.
