The policy is an old one, the Redskins say. But they don't charge non-season-ticket holders $50 to pick up tickets at their will-call ticket booth anymore.

Apparently, non-season-ticket holders can't use the will-call office at all.

A Fox News producer found out that the Redskins had a policy -- in place for years -- that cost anyone not committed to the team for the whole season $50 to hold tickets at will call, Deadspin reported.

The policy still is posted on the team's website, tickets.redskins.com.

Buzzfeed reporter Lindsey Adler called the Redskins public relations department, which told her that the policy was outdated and had been in place to discourage ticket scalpers, she noted in a tweet.

According to Adler, the Redskins ticket office doesn't see any value in holding tickets at will call for non-season-ticket holders, calling it an "inefficient process."

"Fans now have more options for entry with digital tickets, printed tickets etc," the Redskins PR told Adler. She said she didn't get an answer as to why the outdated policy still is posted on the team's website.

Deadspin reported, however, that the team did change its policy Thursday night, adding, "The Will Call windows at FedExField are provided as a service for Washington Redskins Season Ticket Holders. ... Season ticket holders must present their account number and a valid photo I.D. to drop off tickets."

But in between those two sentences, remains the remnants of the old policy:

"A $50 fee per envelope must be paid by all non-season ticket holders seeking to leave tickets for pick-up at the FedExField Ticket Office."

Deadspin wasn't impressed by what it deemed the Redskins' lack of concern for their fans.

"Will call isn't an 'inefficient process,' but a bare minimum core service the team should provide so fans can pick up the tickets they paid the team for. Some people don't have easy access to printers or smart phones for their tickets, and some people like the souvenir of a physical ticket. Besides that, Ticketmaster usually charges outrageous 'convenience' fees to print tickets at home or send a PDF to electronic devices, and will call can save a buck or two."
