And the legend of Vin Scully continues...
The iconic Los Angeles Dodgers announcer doesn't plan to hang up his headset just yet, as reports indicate he will return to the booth for the 2014 Dodgers season.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are set to make a formal announcment Friday that Scully, 85, will return next year for his 65th season of calling Dodgers games.
Scully started announcing for the team when the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn and then followed the franchise over to Los Angeles after the 1957 season.
After more than six decades, Scully is still excited to call games and is enjoying the recent buzz surrounding the Dodgers amazing turn around this season. Scully is having so much fun that he's decided to return for another season next year. He's currently taking it year-to-year with Los Angeles, and decided around this time last year that he'd return for 2013.
"It has been such an exciting, enjoyable, wonderful season - the big crowds in the ballpark, everybody is talking about the ball club, and I really respect, admire and love the management - so everything just fell into place," Scully said according to Yahoo Sports.
Scully, known for his soothing and distinctive voice, his unbelievable knowledge of the game, and his ability to report and stay focused at age 85, attributes the excitement of the Dodgers recent hot streak and the emergence of rookie phenom Yasiel Puig as motivation for his return for another season.
The Dodgers (75-52) enter Friday tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the second-best record in Major League Baseball, and hold a 9.5 game lead over the second place Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West and look to be a shoe-in for some October playoff baseball.
The legendary career of Scully, arguably the most famous announcer in sports, continues at least until 2014, but when this time rolls around next year Scully may still have enough left in the tank to extend his iconic career into the 2015 season.
