Jason Day left zero doubts on Sunday, shooting an 8-under 62 en route to a victory at The Barclays. Now second in the FedEx Cup standings behind Jordan Spieth, Day understands his quest for the Tour Championship has only begun.
Stiffer competition is on the horizon.
"It always is a goal of mine [to win the Tour Championship]," Day said, per PGATour.com. "I can only control what I can control. I can't control them. Seeing Jordan and Rory [McIlroy] are going to play next week, they'll most likely play well.
"That means I'll have to play well, as well, just keep this momentum going."
With three tournaments remaining and a $10 million bonus on the line, Day is now guaranteed a top-five spot at East Lake. His momentous form has even carried him into the discussion for Player of the Year.
"I think winning the FedEx Cup and maybe one or two more tournaments, that could put my name in the mix for Player of the Year," Day added. "I'm not sure. I'm going to leave that to the peers, to the people. That will definitely throw my name in the mix."
Bubba Watson will also be in the conversation, but with three combined majors between them, the votes will likely come down to Speith and Day.
