Jordan Spieth
Tiger Woods failed to qualify for this event, finishing No. 178 in the FedEx Cup standings. (Only the top 125 qualified). Much like he has on the golf course, the former world No. 1 has been forced to make way for Jordan Spieth in the headlines.
The two-time major champion will compete as the world's new No. 1-ranked player for the first time. At 22, he becomes the second-youngest player to own the No. 1 title.
Ironically enough, he's second only to Woods, who claimed the No. 1 ranking in 1997 at the age of 21.
"It's all happened a bit sooner than I maybe pictured it," admitted Spieth, per ESPN. "There are plenty of guys on tour right now that have held that position for longer than a week, and I'm happy to be in that position now. But I'd like to obviously hold it."
His first opportunity to do so comes Thursday in Edison.
