Cristiano Ronaldo's first property purchase in the United States is a very notable one.

The Real Madrid superstar bought the $18.5 million Trump Tower apartment that the E.L. James novel "50 Shades of Grey" is said to be based on, according to the New York Post. James reportedly used the 2,509-square-foot loft as the basis for the bachelor pad of her sexually-charged character "Christian Grey" in the book.

Ronaldo, 30, is under contract with Real Madrid through 2018, but there has been a lot of speculation that he may want to eventually join Major League Soccer. While most rumors have linked him to Los Angeles, the Manhattan loft purchase brings up the exciting premise that the Portuguese forward may join the Red Bulls or New York City FC.

Italian real-estate entrepreneur Alessandro Proto was the person who sold the apartment, which is on Fifth Avenue and overlooks Central Park, to Ronaldo. Proto is widely believed to be the inspiration for the Christian Grey character, despite the fact that James never confirmed it. Proto met James in 2010 when she was touring Italy.

Proto is a business partner of Donald Trump and he owned the apartment since 2010. He's found homes for such celebrity names as Tom Cruise, Leonardo Di Caprio, Madonna, Brad Pitt and Prince William, the Post reports.

The Italian entrepreneur believes that James based the Grey character on him, and that the character's seduction of Anastasia Steele in the novel happens in a setting that is based on the apartment he sold to Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has also had a storied dating life, which includes relationships with English models Alice Goodwin and Gemma Atkinson, as well as his recent kinship with Irina Shayk.

Now he has a bachelor pad befitting of relationships with models.
