The Jets and Patriots can say they see eye-to-eye on at least one subject.
In an appearance on ESPN's "First Take"—the mothership's daily attempt to question the intellect of the casual sports fan—Antonio Cromartie voiced his displeasure with the NFL and Roger Goodell's handling of deflategate.
Donald Trump Lends Tom Brady Support
The Jets cornerback believes Brady shouldn't be suspended for the overblown controversy and that a $25,000 fine should suffice.
In speaking about Goodell, per Rich Cimini (h/t to Pro Football Talk), Cromartie added: "Nobody is safe. No matter who you are, Roger will do what he wants to do. It don't matter what the rules say, he's gonna make his own rules as he goes."
Mark Cuban Says NBA Would've Given Tom Brady Longer Suspension
Cromartie isn't the first NFL player to defend Brady, but he's certainly the most vocal active player. Shortly after the release of the Ted Wells report, Tedy Bruschi came to the strong defensive of his former teammate.
"Tom Brady would not tell anyone to do anything illegal," Bruschi said on the set of ESPN, per Boston.com. "I know Tom Brady. I know his integrity. I vouch for him. Even to this day I still have great admiration for Tom Brady."
Admittedly, Bruschi was absolving his former QB from any wrongdoing. Unlike Bruschi, Cromartie is simply disinterested in the extent of his actions and is happier to see the issue resolved.
The real issue, however, continues to be the player union's disdain for Goodell's role as judge and executioner. Cromartie's outburst on Thursday further validated that claim. Unfortunately for the player's union, it's a position of power they granted him.
