Allyson Felix, Olympic Sprint Champion, Tears Hamstring At World Games, Season In Jeopardy [VIDEO]

Olympic 200-meter sprint champion Allyson Felix’s season could be over after she suffered a torn hamstring during Friday’s World Championships in Moscow while competing in her signature event.

According to ESPN, three-time world champion was at or near the front of the back when she suddenly screamed and began hopping around the track. Within seconds, her brother, Wes, rushed to her side and had to aid in carrying her off the track.

Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce went on to win the race in 22.17 seconds, but the attention and intrigue clearly revolved around Felix and the question of what now comes of her immediate future.

"I'm extremely devastated," Felix said in a statement. "I was really hoping to go out there and put together a great race. Now I am consulting with doctors to figure out what is going on. It is a serious injury, but I don’t know exactly to what extent.”

Felix, who shares the record for most career World Championship gold medals with eight, was thought to be a leading candidate for the 4×100 and/or 4×400 relays for the U.S. this weekend before the injury.

With the 2016 Olympics fast approaching, Felix recently told reporters she would rather try to add the 400 meters to her schedules for those Games than take a stab at adding the 100 to her repertoire.
