The WWE seemed to be building toward a clash between two of its biggest names in Seth Rollins and John Cena at SummerSlam, but the broken nose sustained by the Cenation leader could hinder its plans.

5 Possible Outcomes For Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker at SummerSlam

Cena defended his United States Championship against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion this week on Monday Night RAW, but an errant knee from The Architect nailed Cena right in the face, breaking his nose.

For the last two weeks, the WWE has foreshadowed a clash between Rollins and Cena -- possibly a title-for-title bout - at SummerSlam on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

While the match for New York City wasn't official, it's unlikely the WWE would waste two weeks of television in the buildup to The Biggest Party of the Summer on Cena vs. Rollins if it wasn't happening.

Plus, the United States Champion forcing the former Hounds of Justice member to tap out seemed to warrant him a shot at the richest prize in the game.

Following Cena's broken nose, reports around the wrestling world indicate that he underwent surgery and the WWE has pulled him from several live events - including RAW this week -- likely so that he can heal in time for SummerSlam.

While it doesn't seem probable that Cena would skip the WWE's second biggest event unless the injury is very serious, here are three possible matches for Rollins in the event Cena's injury keeps him off of the SummerSlam card.

1) Triple H

There were rumors that The Game and The Architect would end up colliding at SummerSlam in a marquee bout, but that speculation began to take a downward turn when there was no rift between The Game and his protégé.

Still, there's plenty of time between now and SummerSlam and the WWE could easily turn the tide by either having The Game get angry at Rollins for being too cocky and acting like he doesn't need The Authority or having Rollins turn back into a babyface by betraying his boss.

While it would be weird to see The Game go after the WWE World Heavyweight Championship again, a clash between Rollins and Triple H could have several storyline layers to it and has the potential to steal the show.

With Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker serving as the main event anyway, this could be an added attraction for the richest prize in the game.

Triple H could look to wrest the gold away from Rollins after creating him into what he is while the former Shield creator would get a chance to shine against one of the best in the business.

2) Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose

There were rumors that the WWE had plans of a Triple Threat Match between the three former Shield members, possibly at WrestleMania 32, and there's no reason why SummerSlam can't provide the backdrop for such a great match.

It seems highly unlikely that this would occur, mostly due to the fact that The Lunatic Fringe and the Leader of the Roman Empire are mixed up with the reunited Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper.

While it's not a probable scenario, there is a good chance the former Hounds of Justice stable goes head-to-head on a big stage somewhere down the line and if Cena can't go come SummerSlam, it's at least a match worth considering.

3) Sting

After years and years of back-and-forth, Sting finally joined the WWE last fall and his only active competition to date is a losing effort against Triple H at WrestleMania 31 in March.

The WWE Universe is clamoring for Sting, who is in tremendous shape, to have another match and it seemed like the WWE was set to grant their wish up until recently.

There were reports that The Vigilante would team up with Ambrose and Reigns in their crusade against Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, who would have had a third member emerge due to the real-life injury of Erick Rowan, however the WWE has reportedly nixed that plan.

Sting's lasting legacy in the WWE shouldn't be a pinfall loss to Triple H and the WWE can remedy that by bringing him in for this huge event in the Big Apple.

While there are plenty of things that could happen between now and SummerSlam, the WWE is reportedly planning to leave Sting off the show. The former WCW and TNA Icon will be in New York City for an autograph signing on SummerSlam weekend, so anything is possible.

Since Sting failed to take out Triple H, he could set his sights on The Authority's golden boy by going after Rollins if in fact Cena is unfit to perform at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
