Amid reports that Sting won't be at SummerSlam after previous rumors that he would appear, there are new rumors that The Vigilante was told the WWE had a change of heart.
WWE Diva AJ Lee Not Taking Bookings From Other Companies
There were multiple reports following the Battleground event that the WWE planned to team up Sting with former Shield members Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose against The Wyatt Family in a six-man tag team match at SummerSlam on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The plan would have seen a new partner join the recently reunited Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper in the Wyatt Family to make it a three-on-two advantage for the heels.
Bray Wyatt's Sister Receives WWE Tryout
With Erick Rowan sidelined with a legitimate injury, it would have been a new member joining the Wyatt's with the likely candidates being Bray's real-life brother Bo Dallas or Adam Rose in a character change.
Sting was then to appear late in the feud, a week or two before SummerSlam to join forces with Reigns and Ambrose and set up a six-man match for The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Reports came out earlier this week that the angle was nixed and in the latest update, Wrestlingheadlines.com reveals that Sting was informed that the plans have changed and he will not be used on the show.
Sting was announced for a signing in New York City on the day before the big event, so it's possible things could change, however the WWE even pulled a SummerSlam commercial that mentioned The Vigilante.
Sting, 56, is reportedly in fantastic shape for his age and has been hoping for a return to the WWE ring, but for one reason or another, the organization has opted not to go with its original plans.
There were also rumors that if the six-man match didn't happen, Sting would team with Green Arrow actor Steven Amell in a tag team match against Stardust and another Superstar, likely The Miz.
Stardust and Amell have been feuding on social media in recent months and the idea would have seen the actor team up with Sting as a pair of "vigilantes" taking down two heels in the WWE in a tag team match.
The original reports for the six-man match also claimed that the WWE was hopeful that pairing Ambrose and Sting would help ease the crowd reaction to Reigns as New York City could be hard on him stemming from the WWE's big babyface push for him.
There's no word on what will happen now, but a standard tag bout that would pit Reigns and Ambrose against Wyatt and Harper is possible.
After carving out a great career in WCW followed by a Hall of Fame stint in TNA, Sting joined the WWE in November and lost to Triple H at WrestleMania 31 in his first -- and so far only -- contest in a WWE ring.
While there was a lot of buzz about Sting wrestling again, this time at SummerSlam, The Vigilante likely won't have a match in Brooklyn.
