Tiger Woods is used to topping athletes lists, but lately the lists are becoming more and more dubious.

A recent CNN article reports that Woods is the most overpaid athlete, commensurate to his talent, still competing today.

Woods, who failed to make the cut at the British Open, marking the first time in his career that he failed to make the cut at consecutive major golf tournaments, still made more than $50 million in endorsements last year, CNN reported, citing a Forbes article.

He was ranked 241st in the world, heading into the third major of 2015, but the ninth highest paid athlete. Of that money, $600,000 came from his golf winnings.

Tiger Woods gives raunchy response about role of social media in sports

As CNN pointed out, most of the other players among the top 10 are in or close to their primes. Arguments could be made for Manny Pacquiao (No. 2), Phil Mickelson (No. 8) and Kobe Bryant (No. 10) as competitors for Woods' claim.

Pacquiao was outclassed by Floyd Mayweather (No. 1) in their mega-fight in May in Las Vegas, but didn't embarrass himself. Mickelson's last major victory came in 2013, while Woods' last of his 14 majors came in 2008.

Mickelson also finished second in the 2015 Masters.

Bryant has played only 41 games over the last two years combined, but won his last championship in 2010. His $23.5 million salary has not helped the Lakers' salary cap, and reports have surfaced that his presence could be a factor in NBA free agents refusing with the franchise.

Other than the Masters this year, Woods has played like the No. 241 golfer in the world. His play continues to garner attention because of his subpar golf game that he has not been able to shake.
