If it's not buyers remorse, then it could be buyers insurance for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Lakers are interested in acquiring Denver Nugget's embattled point guard Ty Lawson, who suffered his second driving under the influence arrest earlier this week.

Lakers have a chance to land 2016 free agent Kevin Durant next summer?

"Despite a second DUI arrest in the last six months, embattled Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson is generating interest on the trade market, NBA sources told SI.com. Houston, Detroit and the L.A. Lakers are among the teams that have expressed interest in Lawson recently, and there remains a strong possibility the Nuggets could unload Lawson before training camp."

Lawson averaged 15.2 points and 9.6 assists per game in 2014-15 for the Nuggets. He has two years left on his contract at a combined $25 million.

According to SI.com, the emergence of Nuggets rookie Emmanuel Mudiay, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 draft, during the NBA' Summer League season, has made Lawson and his off-court issues expendable.

The Lakers, meanwhile, are said to want a veteran point guard who will teach their rookie, D'Angelo Russell, the ins and outs of being an effective point guard.

ESPN's SportsCenter recently ranked members of the 2015 NBA Draft class and put Mudiay in among the top performers so far in the summer. Russell was in a category of "needs seasoning."

The Lakers passed on Duke center Jahlil Okafor in favor or Russell, the Ohio State guard, in the draft. The move left some Lakers fans, who are well-versed in the history of the franchise's success being tied to a succession of valuable big men, skeptical of the move.

Los Angeles then failed to land prized free-agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge, making their draft selection even riskier.

And now that the Denver Nuggets want to unload Lawson because of what they've seen in Mudiay, the Lakers' interest in Lawson can only be seen as a black mark against Russell.
