Alex Rodriguez missed out on making the All-Star team, but the received praise from the new commissioner.

Bryan Price Believes He Should Remain Reds Skipper Amid Tough Season

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred complimented Rodriguez for how he has handled himself since returning to the field after missing the entire 2014 season due to a suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic and performance-enhancing drugs.

"He has performed on the field very, very well," Manfred said at an All-Star Game news conference, according to ESPN. "When people are suspended for the length of time that he was suspended for, the flip side of that equation is that they should resume their career. He has done that successfully."

Rodriguez wasn't voted in or selected in the All-Star Game, which emanated from the Cincinnati Reds' home of Great American Ball Park on Tuesday night.

While Rodriguez couldn't help the American League in the Midsummer Classic, he'll look to help the Yankees reap the benefits of World Series home-field advantage as the AL knocked off the NL, 6-3, in Cincinnati.

Rodriguez, who turns 40 later this month, is hitting .278 this season with 18 homers and 51 RBI.

The slugger also leads the Yankees in on-base percentage (.382), OPS (.898) and walks (46, tied) at the end of the first half. It's been a surprising season for Rodriguez, considering he missed the entire 2014 campaign and has had two major knee surgeries in the past.

Rodriguez has taken a team-first approach this season and it has been noticed around baseball and even by Manfred, who was part of A-Rod's drawn-out appeal process that stemmed from the Biogenesis suspension.

The Yankees resume play in the second half by hosting the Seattle Mariners on Friday and they enter the post-All-Star break in a good position.

New York (48-40) owns a 3.5-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays (46-45) for first place in the AL East standings.
