Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, two proud franchises that unexpectedly stumbled in 2012, will try to right last year's wrongs beginning with Week 1 of the preseason. The game can be live streamed here while Giants fans can hear the game on 101.9 WFAN FM, and Steelers fans can do the same by tuning in to 102.5 WDVE-FM.
The biggest issue for the Giants heading into this season will be something that was an undisputed strength for the last few years-the defensive line. More specifically, the health of the defensive line.
Stud pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul will not be in action tonight, and could potentially be sidelined into the regular season by back surgery. His return date has become a point of some contention. Giants general manager Jerry Reese recently said JPP's recovery was ahead of schedule.
"JP's on schedule," Reese said to WFAN earlier this week. "He's looking good, he's running around a little bit. He's going to be out on the field a little more than usual as we move along. We expect him hopefully to be back, ready to go for the [Week 1] Dallas game."
Pierre-Paul didn't quite corroborate Reese's assessment. "It's not really the doctors' decision," Pierre-Paul said. "It's basically on me. It all depends on my recovery and how my back feels and if I can go out there and practice with the team. I'm going to have to get a couple practices before if I decide to come back before the first game and go out there and play.
Meanwhile, the Steelers will spend the preseason figuring out their running back rotation with Jonathan Dwyer Isaac Redman and rookie Le'Veon Bell in tow.
They will also use this preseason to figure out their passing options. Antonio Brown was disappointing last year, and the Steelers lost 2012's No. 1 Mike Wallace to the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
