Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is looking to the silver screen for some inspiration on the hardwood this postseason. The 23-year-old All Star has recently become enamored with Damien Chazelle’s Academy Award-winning drama, Whiplash.

LeBron James Explains Why He Ditched His Headband

Starring Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons (the latter of whom won an Oscar for his performance), it revolves around the combative nature between a music instructor and his star protege. The film is caustic, claustrophobic, intense, and probing. Most of all, it’s a question about how far you’re willing to go to succeed in your passion of choice.

Irving must’ve seen himself in that film, because he’s penned the movie’s title on his sneakers for the Cavs’ postseason.

"It's just about the drive to be great," Irving told ESPN.com after the Cavaliers beat the Chicago Bulls 106-101 to take a 3-2 series lead on Tuesday night. "It's awesome."
