The Minnesota Vikings are trying to figure out what they want to do with star running back Adrian Peterson, who has expressed a desire to play elsewhere this season. They have insisted that they will not release Peterson, although they may trade him if the right deal comes along.

One of the possible landing spots for Peterson is the Dallas Cowboys, and the former MVP has said that playing for Jerry Jones' team is his dream. The team has entertained the idea of a trade for some time, although they have not made any serious overtures at this point.

Dallas needs and wants running back help before the season begins, so a Peterson trade makes sense for the team if they are willing to surrender a desirable package. According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are considering drafting a running back instead of trading for Peterson, as they may have to give up their first round pick and then some to get the star Viking.

Instead, they may elect to use the extra capital to trade up if necessary, or they could just elect to draft a back in the second or third round, where plenty of productive runners have been taken in recent years.

Drafting a back would also save the team millions of dollars versus acquiring Peterson's astronomical cap hit, which obviously helps fill out the rest of the roster and get a deal done with star wideout Dez Bryant.

Jerry Jones is known to be fond of superstars, and Peterson unquestionably is one. The Cowboys' owner may not be able to resist the temptation.

It will all come down to how Dallas plans to utilize its draft picks.
