The change to the Divas Championship match this Sunday at Extreme Rules could have a tremendous impact on the character direction of The Bella Twins.
Daniel Bryan's Health Could Cause Cancelation of Extreme Rules Match
WWE Divas Champion Nikki and her sister Brie have been working as heels for the last few months, but it appears as though the WWE is shifting them toward being babyfaces going forward.
Nikki was originally supposed to defend her gold against Paige, but the WWE wrote her off of television by having Naomi turn heel and attack her. This was done so that Paige could film the WWE Studios Santa's Little Helper, which causes her to bee off of television for awhile.
The WWE revealed on RAW this week in Albany that Naomi will now take Paige's place in the bout at Extreme Rules, which emanates this Sunday from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Nikki will work as a babyface during the match due to the fact that Naomi just turned into a villain and the WWE is looking to sell the impact of her character change.
Per the report, WWE tested using the Bellas as faces again during the European tour as they dropped their heel shtick during a show in Bournemouth, England in order to gauge the reaction from the crowd.
A face turn would make sense since both Divas are romantically linked to two of the top good guys in the company. Brie is married to Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan while Nikki is dating United States Champion and face of the franchise John Cena.
Nikki has been Divas Champion since the Survivor Series in November and she fired out a series of tweets on Monday about leaving her legacy as the title-holder and revitalizing the division:
Bella also said on RAW Fallout this week that she's ready for any challenge when it was revealed that Naomi is now the No. 1 contender to her belt:
Nikki and Brie will likely have an attitude change when they appear at Extreme Rules this Sunday as Nikki puts the Divas Championship on the line against Naomi
