According to ESPN FC, Manchester United will offer Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to Southampton in a bid to prevent Chelsea from signing right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
Hernandez will reportedly reject an offer to join Major League Soccer's Orlando City to fight for a place in one of Europe's top clubs. The question is: Is Southampton one of those "top clubs?"
Below are three other Premier League sides that should consider landing his services.
Liverpool
Mario Balotelli's tenure at Liverpool has been, to say the least, a massive disappointment. The 24-year-old has just three goals in 1,135 combined minutes. With such a paltry rate of return—one goal for every 378 minutes of play—Liverpool are in desperate need of cover for an often-injured Daniel Sturridge. Hernandez is the type of bargain a Europa League side will need next season.
Tottenham
Harry Kane is Champions League quality. Tottenham are not. The Spurs will once again miss out on the top four and given Kane's stellar form, the club might be forced to accept another massive bid for one of its premier talents. Finding a suitable replacement will be next to impossible—Liverpool can attest to the struggles of replacing an impeccable goalscorer—but Hernandez will prove to be a step in the right direction.
Aston Villa
No club has a more putrid scoring record this campaign than Aston Villa. The club, attempting to stave off relegation, has just 24 goals in 33 matches. Christian Benteke is slowly returning to proper form, but adding goals in the summer transfer window remains a priority. Of the three, Villa are the least likely to acquire Hernandez, but it shouldn't be for a lack of trying.
