Chad Gaudin, a journeyman pitcher who has bounced around the majors since he entered the league in 2003, was allegedly involved in a bizarre sexual harassment situation back in January.
According to reports, Gaudin groped a 23-year-old woman on a gurney in a Las Vegas hospital at 4:30 a.m. The woman was lying on the stretcher when Gaudin reportedly approached her and told her she was "gorgeous", before touching her face and breasts. A witness overheard Gaudin say, "I'll take care of you don't worry about them."
Hospital security was called and tackled Gaudin to the floor as he struggled and used profanity. According to police, when they arrived he was still shouting and cursing. Oddly enough, Gaudin was not injured at the time of the groping, and it isn't clear why he was in an emergency room.
A police officer said he asked the relief pitcher why he was there several times, and every time Gaudin responded that he didn't know. In Gaudin's mugshot he has reddened eyes and appeared very intoxicated.
The arrest happened on January 27th, a month after the Giants signed him, but he was not charged until early July. He has been charged with one count of open and gross lewdness.
This season Gaudin has appeared in 23 games, boasting a 2-1 record and 2.44 ERA in 59 innings. He has recorded 50 strikeouts while walking 19 batters.
The 11-year pro has pitched for nine different teams, his longest stint coming with the Oakland Athletics. He has been a starter and reliever at different points in his career. In 2007 he made 34 starts for Oakland, earning 11 wins and posting a 4.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.
He also made 25 starts in 2009 between the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees, going 6-10 that year with a 4.64 ERA.
