Even if her intentions were honorable as she says, Caroline Wozniacki finally may have created some sympathy for ex-fiancé Rory McIlroy with a recent tweet.
Bleacher Report reported that the Danish tennis star, whom McIlroy unceremoniously dumped last May when he announced that their engagement was off and their relationship was over, received considerable backlash for posting the following on her Twitter account after Jordan Spieth won the Masters.
Caroline Wozniacki is J.J. Watt's date at NCAA Basketball Championship game?
Congratulations to @JordanSpieth on winning @TheMasters! Extremely impressive how he came out firing from the start and never looked back!— Caroline Wozniacki (@CaroWozniacki) April 13, 2015
McIlroy, who finished fourth after a final-round 66 for a 12-under total, was trying to complete his career Grand Slam. So naturally, the Twitter world had some issues with Wozniacki's tweet, which several took to be a dig at the current No. 1 golfer.
Caroline Wozniacki losing motivation from Rory McIlroy's breakup faux pas to fuel her tennis career?
From Naeem Haffejee (@NaeemH7): "@CaroWozniacki @JordanSpieth Interested in dating him now?"
From Jason Peterson (@navywhites): "@CaroWozniacki have issues?"
From The Tennis Times (@thetennistimes): "@CaroWozniacki would you have commented the same if Rory won?"
From Michael R. Leether (@MLeetherSales): "@CaroWozniacki @TheMasters I don't see Rory wishing Serena Williams a congrats on her next major. I think we now know who dumped who...."
And from Colm Cloake (@For_Sports_Fans): "@CaroWozniacki @JordanSpieth @TheMasters Have to wonder what reaction she was expecting from posting this?"
According to Wozniacki, she wasn't expecting any reaction.
Tweeps I was congratulating Speith on his win, nothing else.. It's time for some of you to move on from the past. Thank you!
