Notre Dame had their annual spring scrimmage on Saturday in front of fans and the media, and naturally the team's uncertain quarterback situation was at the forefront of everyone's minds.

Sophomore Malik Zaire and super-senior Everett Golson are competing for the starting job. Golson played the large majority of snaps in 2014, but was benched in favor of Zaire in the teams regular season finale. Both QBs split time in the Irish's Motor City Bowl appearance versus LSU, but Zaire performed better, winning the game's MVP award.

The competition between the two was tight on Saturday. Both Golson and Zaire made some nice throws and made some poor decisions. In total they combined for three interceptions.

Afterwards head coach Brian Kelly acknowledged that both his signal callers need to show improvement.

“Sometimes he’ll check into some things that we’re not quite certain as to what he’s thinking,” Kelly said of Zaire, via Bleacher Report. “Everett, there’s no doubt about where his mind is relative to what he’s seeing and thinking.

“Neither one of them can turn the football over,” Kelly added. "They’re building on what we see as the areas that we’ve asked them to work on.”

Kelly has yet to name a starter for 2015 and the common consensus is that he won't for some time.
