Washington Redskins News: Robert Griffin Says It's Not His Job To Judge Head Coach Jay Gruden's Decisions [VIDEO]

It’s no secret that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III did not exactly get along with his head coach Jay Gruden last season.

RG3 Assailed By Critics On Social Media

Both sides were partially to blame for the disconnect. Griffin was plagued by turnovers and poor mechanics, but Gruden didn’t help matters by publicly chastising RG3 through the media. Griffin was even benched for back-up Colt McCoy at one point late in the season.

The former Heisman and Rookie of the Year winner has largely stayed out of the spotlight this off-season, as he’s been working on his game and preparing for his first child.

Griffin did make an appearance on Comcast’s “Redskins Nation” TV program this week, and he was asked to assess how Gruden had been as a rookie coach in 2014. RG3, however, punted on providing any real criticism, offering basic platitudes instead.

Mike Shanahan Still Thinks RG3 Can Be A Good NFL QB

“He wants me to go out there and be the quarterback he knows I can be, and I will be,” Griffin said, via CBS Sports. “My job is not to characterize or judge him as a coach. Players play, coaches coach and it's that way for a reason. I respect that. We're going to make sure that we're working together in a positive way to make sure that this team is successful and that there's no ifs, ands or buts about who the coach is, who the player is, who the quarterback is, and that's what we're going to do.”

Griffin, Gruden, and the Skins were 4-12 last season. They can talk all they want this off-season about burying hatchets or working together, but winning will be the only elixir that locker room needs.
