A frustrating first season at the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers boiled over for head coach Byron Scott when he called out his team and said he knew which players he "wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with."
The Lakers currently sit at 20-57 and the team has lost four straight games. Scott said frustration got the better of him when he made those comments following a 107-77 loss to the Portland Trailblazers on Friday and a 106-78 loss to the L.A. Clippers on Sunday.
"After the last two games ... I was probably as frustrated as anybody, because all season long, our guys have put in a hell of an effort, no matter if we've been outmanned or whatever the case may be," Scott said before the Lakers fell to the Clippers for the second straight game, 105-100 on Tuesday, per ESPN.
He continued: "I thought the last two games, we didn't come close. So that frustration boiled over. At that particular time, there wasn't a lot of guys that I would want to be in the foxhole with. I want guys that I know I can go to battle with. That's the bottom line no matter how the season is going."
Frustration has been a huge part of this campaign for Los Angeles, which continues to raise its franchise record for futility with each loss this season.
Scott has been honest in assessing his team throughout the season and he even called out guard Nick Young due to his colorful personality.
"My comments are very simple, and I talk to all my players after the season about what they need to do to get better as a basketball player," Scott said. "What I said to [the media] about what Nick needs to do, I said that to him in Phoenix. It's nothing new. It's called coaching. Simple as that."
It's been a long, miserable season for Los Angeles and it lost star Kobe Bryant (torn rotator cuff) for the year for the third straight campaign.
The Lakers will miss the playoffs for the second straight year this season after finishing a franchise-worst 27-55 in 2013-14. Los Angeles has eclipsed that inefficiency in 2014-15 and the frustration has boiled over for their coach.
