The Los Angeles Angels continue to honor the memory of Nick Adenhart.
Kristin Weaver, the wife of Angels ace Jered Weaver, gave birth to a baby boy on Friday night, CBSSports.com reported. And the happy couple has named their son Aden David Weaver.
Aden is the Weavers' first child.
The "Aden" part was explained publicly in a post from the Angels' official Twitter account:
"For those asking, the Weavers did in fact spell their new son's name Aden in honor of Nick Adenhart," the Angels tweeted.
Adenhart was an up-and-coming young prospect in the Angels organization when he was killed in a car crash on April 9, 2009. A drunk driver with a suspended who was in another vehicle crashed into Aden hart, killing the pitcher and two other passengers in Adenhart's car.
Adenhart had pitched for the Angels earlier that night, allowing no runs on seven hits in six innings against the Oakland A's. He was 22 years old.
The driver of the other vehicle, according to CBSSports.com, is in jail serving a 51-years-to-life sentence after being convicted on three counts of second-degree murder.
Adenhart was a highly rated prospect coming out of high school but suffered a partial ligament tear in his throwing elbow that required Tommy John Surgery. He was originally projected as a possible first-round draft selection but ended up going to the Angels in the 14th round.
The product of Silver Springs, Md., started four career games with the Angels from 2008-09, finishing with a 1-0 record.
Weaver and Adenhart reportedly were close friends before Adenhart was killed. Weaver writes the initials "NA" in the dirt on the back of the pitcher's mound before each start.
Weaver has been an American League All-Star three times since Adenhart's tragic death. Weaver's best season came in 2012 when he went 20-5 with a 2.81 earned-run average.
