Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant's 2014-15 season is over after just 27 games, following a foot fracture that has required three surgeries in total. Durant will miss the next four to six months while he recuperates and struggles to return to full health.

Will Kevin Durant Ever Be The Same?

That Durant has been unable to follow up on his MVP 2014 season is naturally disappointing to Thunder fans and executives, but there are also larger issues looming on the horizon. Durant is a free agent in 2016, and there is rampant speculation that he could bolt OKC for more high-profile pastures like New York City or his hometown Washington Wizards.

Durant recently spoke to the media, and while he acknowledged that he's aware of the din of 2016 chatter surrounding his free agency, he also acknowledged that his heart could be OKC's for a long time.

Kevin Durant Calls Former ESPN Writer A Dumb*ss On Twitter

“I love it here, man. I love my teammates, I love the city, I don’t really think about anywhere else,” Durant said, in remarks relayed by Real GM. “I hear it all the time, don’t get me wrong, and once you hear it you’re kind of like [looks up, thinking]. But for me, I love staying in the moment, and I’m one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career.

“Kobe [Bryant], Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki type. That’s awesome,” he said. “But you never know what the future holds sometimes and how teams may feel about you after a while, but I love it here and I would love to get my jersey retired here.”

Reassuring words to Thunder fans, no doubt, but until the dotted lined is signed, nothing is certain.
