Aaron Hernandez, the ex-New England Patriots star tight end who stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Odin Lloyd, and pulling the trigger in his shooting death, will be back in court again today at 9:00 a.m. Follow Day 37 of the court proceedings free here.
Hernandez’s fiancée Shaynna Jenkins is a key component of the prosecution’s case because of the role they believe she played in hiding the murder of Lloyd. The prosecution has struggled to pin down a motive for Hernandez to kill someone considered to be his friend, and they have not recovered the Glock .45 used to shoot him.
The prosecution believes Jenkins disposed of that weapon though, and she has been granted immunity from Judge Susan E. Garsh. She did not flip on Hernandez in court Friday, but when the jury was no longer around Jenkins did admit to being asked to remove a box from Hernandez’s home.
"You took that box out and concealed it. Were you attempting to do it in a way so that people didn't know what you were doing?" Bristol County District Attorney William McCauley asked Jenkins. She responded “That’s correct.”
The text message prosecutors believe served as instructions for Jenkins to get rid of the gun reads as follows..
"Go ... in back of the screen in movie room when u (sic) get home an (sic) there is a box ... jus (sic) in case u were looking for it!!! Member (sic) how you ruined the big tv ... WAS JUST THINKIN bout that lol wink wink love u TTYL....K.”
In court on Friday, Jenkins said she didn’t know what the text message meant. Jenkins wasn’t entirely helpful to the prosecution on Friday, but she did admit to withdrawing money from an ATM for Ernest Wallace, an alleged co-conspirator. She also said she has seen a gun before "in the kitchen junk drawer."
