The Daily Mail reported that Gregg Peers, a candidate for a position in the Cumbria County Council , dressed up as Pistorius with a fake gun and a yellow tank top with "South Africa" written on it, plus a "Pistorius" race ID.

The tank top is covered in fake blood. Peers also has a photo of him in the Pistorius garb with a South African flag draped around him.

According to the Daily Mail, the general election for the Council is in two weeks. A Conservative Party spokesman said, "This is unacceptable and in poor taste. The candidate has apologized and taken the picture down."

It is unclear why Peers dressed up like Pistorius or chose post the pictures to his Facebook account.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is under pressure to discipline Peers, who is also affiliated with Tory general election candidate Simon Fell.

"Oscar Pistorius is rightly serving time in prison for killing Reeva Steenkamp - it is stomach churning to see a man who wants to hold elected office making a joke out of the death of a woman, said Liz Kendall, shadow minister for the rival Labor Party.

"David Cameron must show he takes violence against women seriously by taking immediate action against his candidate, and the Conservatives must explain why they promoted him to senior positions in their party."

Pistorius is serving a five-year sentence for a culpable homicide conviction in the Valentine's Day, 2013 shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
