Dallas obviously has a lot going on this offseason, but they do not have a bigger priority right now than the contract situation of star wide receiver Dez Bryant. They made their big free agent move in nabbing Greg Hardy, and now Bryant's contract becomes the main concern.

Tony Romo, Jerry Jones, Both Retiring Within 5 Years?

Not only will Bryant's contract affect Dallas's ability to sign other free agents, but it may also affect the team's draft strategy. One thing they should be wary of, however, is how Hardy's contract could impact the team's negotiations with Bryant, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Hardy's deal has a clause in it that prevents the team from using the franchise tag on him next season, so no matter what, Hardy will be a free agent after 2015. Bryant may elect to ask for the same kind of clause in his franchise tender, and although the team could say no, it may help them create an air of good faith during contract talks.

Dallas Planning To Fill RB Need In Draft Instead Of Via Trade?

Because of the nature of Hardy's contract, he is also essentially getting paid by the game (because of the potential that he will be suspended), so getting a Bryant deal done before the season will free up some much-needed cap room to manage Hardy's fluctuating cap hit.

The bottom line is, it helps both sides if a Dez Bryant deal gets done sooner, and the longer that Dallas waits, the more problems they are open to. If they can hammer out the deal with Dez, they can finish filling out the roster and go about the important business of trying to repeat as division champs.
