Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce Trade: Celtics Stars Headed To Brooklyn Nets?

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that a source has informed him the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets are working on a blockbuster trade that could land Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in the Barclays Center.

CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that Nets general manager Billy King was inquiring about Garnett's desire to team up with superstar point guard Deron Williams in Brooklyn. Garnett proved last season that he is still a capable scorer and defender, while the Nets desperately covet a power forward with shooting range that can maximize Williams' ability to run the pick and roll.

Garnett would also allow power forward Reggie Evans to provide his hyper-aggressive rebounding off the bench, serving as an energy booster rather than someone relied upon to provide starter's minutes without starting-calier offensive ability.

Paul Pierce could also add scoring punch to the Nets, but they already have high-priced shooting guard Joe Johnson entrenched in the starting lineup, and another pricy veteran in Gerald Wallace taking up space. Clearly, Pierce would likely replace Wallace in the lineup but it's unclear who would get shipped to Boston. Wojnarowski is reporting that Wallace would likely be included in the deal.

One player who would likely get traded from Brooklyn is MarShon Brooks, who has shown flashes of potential as an instant-offense provider but struggled for minutes last season. The young guard once scored 50 points while playing at Providence in college, and his per 36 stats say he's averaged 15 points per game on 46 percent shooting.

Another player likely to move in a deal for Garnett and Pierce is Kris Humphries, who essentially fills the same role as Evans and whose $24 million contract comes off the books after the 2013-2014 comes to a close.

Should this deal go through, the Nets would trot out a veteran-laden starting five of Williams, Johnson, Pierce, Garnett and Brook Lopez, forming one of the top starting lineups in the Eastern Conference.
