CM Punk is getting set to enter the Octagon later this year and the "Best in the World" is also hopeful a former UFC fighter will return -- WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.

Punk was at a media gathering for UFC over the weekend, and MMA journalist Ariel Helwani tweeted that the former WWE Champion said he hoped Lesnar would return to the promotion after his current run with the WWE is up:

Helwani also noted that Punk said he believed if Lesnar was signed by UFC and booked to return at the same event Punk will make his eventual debut, it would break UFC's pay-per-view record.

Lesnar is under contract with the WWE, but it is rumored to expire the night after WrestleMania, which takes place on Mar. 29 from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

"The Beast" reportedly had a contract dispute with Vince McMahon when they were negotiating a new deal, leading to him storming out on Monday Night RAW on Feb. 23. The two sides are still said to be far apart.

Punk is no stranger to walking out, as he left the WWE on the night after the Royal Rumble in 2014 due to frustrations with the company and never returned. He then signed with UFC last December.

Punk has been training with Anthony Pettis and prior to Pettis losing to Rafael dos Anjos on Saturday at UFC 185, he praised Punk's work ethic.

"Yes for sure. I just didn't know what to expect," Pettis said of Punk's attitude, according to The Sporting News. "You see him on TV. I met him a couple times. You really don't know what to expect from anybody. He came into the gym, you come into the practice room and you have two world champions on the floor, you have CM Punk, you have one of the most Olympic level wrestlers and everybody is just training together. Everybody blends in and there's no superstar. There's no one person who gets more attention. It's just a team full of guys that all want to get better."

Regarding Punk, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin appeared on AXS TV's Inside MMA and discussed Punk joining the promotion:

It remains to be seen when Punk will debut and if Lesnar will return to the Octagon, but the "Best in the World" would love to see "The Beast" make a return to the MMA realm.
