The Washington Redskins were a picture of dysfunction in 2014. The team struggled on the field, they may have tuned out their head coach for a while, they endured multiple quarterback controversies, and they still have arguably the worst owner in the National Football League.

It remains to be seen how many of those problems will resurface in 2015, but - at least for now - the team is settled at quarterback, as head coach Jay Gruden has said that Robert Griffin III is the man heading into the season. But is the team setting itself up for failure by making that decision?

According to Bleacher Report, Colt McCoy, who seemed to be Gruden's favorite QB on the roster last year, is set to be a free agent, and he may not be back with the team. Kirk Cousins largely proved that he is not a starter last season, so RG3 will basically get the job by default. Check Out JJ Watt's Rocky-esque Training Cabin

Gruden also said that they will do what they can to help Griffin, but his lack of development may not be entirely on the coaches.

Obviously Griffin is working to recover from injuries, and being a workout warrior has its advantages, but there is a lot of work that goes into being a successful NFL player besides what happens on the practice field and in the weight room. If Griffin does not improve his ability to go through his progressions and read defenses, then all of the athleticism in the world will only get him - and the team - so far.

Shanahan's claims also shed some light on why Griffin often looks inconsistent from game to game, and it raises questions about whether he will improve his work habits this offseason. If he does not, then the team and its quarterback will almost certainly struggle regardless of Griffin's health.
