Aaron Hernandez Murder Investigation Opening Door For Tim Tebow At Tight End?

Aaron Hernandez, one of two star tight ends for the New England Patriots is in the middle of a homicide investigation, according to reports. Boston police searched his home today while investigating a murder that involved a car registered to the NFL star.

At the moment, Hernandez is not considered a suspect in the crime, but ESPN reports he was not cooperating with authorities originally when questioned about the body of a 27-year-old male found in an industrial park.

A Patriots spokesperson, Stacey James said, "I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation."

The New England Patriots offense, without a major deep threat at wide receiver or top-flight running back, is reliant on its tight ends and right now the future of both is in question. Rob Gronkowski has been beset by surgeries to his forearm and back all offseason and may not be ready for training camp or the start of the season.

Mix in Hernandez' potential murder rap plight, and the Patriots may need a dynamic replacement which is hard to find in free agency this close to camp. Enter brand new free agent acquisition Tim Tebow, who does not figure to factor into New England's quarterback situation with Tom Brady under center.

Tebow, at six feet, two inches possesses the necessary size to man the tight end position, and tight end appears to be the only logical spot for him to make a significant impact on the offense.

When asked upon his signing how Tebow would be deployed, Belichick was coy. "Tim is a talented player that is smart and works hard," Belichick said. "We'll see how it goes." Reporters also asked Hernandez, Tebow's former Florida Gators teammate about how the team plans to use him, to which he responded, "The reason why he's here? I actually don't know the reason yet, but we'll see."

Now, the reason could be to replace him.
