Throughout the history of the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the best franchises in the league. They almost never have a down season, they always have one of the league's best five or ten players, and they always have the ability to lure star free agents to the team during the offseason.

Lately, things have taken a bit of a downturn for the franchise. They are currently one of the worst teams in the league, and they have come upon hard times in regard to team building. Future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant no longer appears capable of carrying a franchise, and for once, the team came up empty in free agency last summer.
Of course, being the Lakers, they are simply looking ahead to the coming offseason, when they will get Bryant and 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle back from injury. The team will add another high lottery pick, which will likely be in the top five, and could be as high as first overall.

And - as always - the team will look to lure a star free agent or two to Los Angeles. There are plenty of great players available in the coming seasons, and landing one this year could set the stage for the Lakers to entice one of the league's best players in 2016 or 2017.
In fact, some celebs are already helping out with the recruiting cause. Snoop Dogg recently posted a photo on Instagram targeting Russell Westbrook to sign with L.A. when his contract is up in two years.
The Lakers will certainly target Westbrook's teammate Kevin Durant next offseason, although rumors have emerged that he may return to his native Washington D.C. sign with the Wizards. Whatever KD does, if he leaves Oklahoma City, it will be all the more plausible that Russell Westbrook could opt to join the Lakers.
