For December and much of January, the Capitals looked like one of the best teams in the league, and they were being carried by their best players, which is exactly what every team's fans want to see. For Washington, that means that captain Alexander Ovechkin was leading the way.

According to TMZ, Ovechkin recently had the time to throw out an opinion about his home country. Ovechkin hails from Russia, and he has become one of the biggest superstars in both the National Hockey League and the international hockey scene.

So when Ovechkin was asked for his thoughts about Vladimir Putin, he had no problem speaking up. Opinions about Putin are all over the place recently because of Russia's hostilities toward Ukraine and the country's struggling economy.

Ovechkin was asked about Putin's personality and behavior in person and whether he is as gruff and intimidating as he often appears during his television appearances. Ovi admitted that he did not want to get into politics too much, but he made it clear that he is a fan of Putin. He also said that he thinks that Putin would beat Barack Obama in a steel cage match if the two ever fought.
