Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child. To make the news even more poignant, Thursday was Griffin's own birthday. The former Heisman Trophy winner turned 25.

News of his impending fatherhood comes at just the right time for Griffin. This week the Redskins quarterback was assailed by mean-spirited trolls all over social media, for no other crime than posting an Instagram video of himself singing along to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" on Tuesday.
