The Pro Bowl has tried all kinds of tactics in order to attract more interest from the fans over the years. They moved the game to the week between the conference championship games, and now they have started having former NFL greats draft the teams rather than splitting the players by conference.

DeMarco Murray Engaged Despite Cheating Allegations

This year, the captains for each team were Hall of Fame wide receivers Cris Carter and Michael Irvin. According to ESPN, each team used its top pick on a star quarterback. Team Carter had the first overall pick, and they drafted Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. With the second overall pick, Team Irvin selected Cowboys signal caller Tony Romo.

For Luck, it was the second consecutive year that he has been taken with the first pick in the Pro Bowl draft. "It's nice, I guess," Luck said. "The reality is that everybody is deserving of it. There's a bunch of No. 1 picks in there but it's nice I guess."

Irvin certainly did not hide his NFL allegiances when he was picking his team. In addition to Romo, the former Dallas great drafted six other Cowboys players. There were a total of eight Cowboys invited to the game. Irvin also selected Jason Garrett and the Cowboys staff to be the coach of his team for the game.

The first six players selected were offensive players, and Patrick Peterson became the first defensive player selected with the seventh pick.

Overall, it seems like the players enjoy the draft format. "It was already tough enough to get drafted once," said Broncos linebacker Von Miller. "This is what the fans want see. They want to see a team get picked and go by step-by-step. And it has some of the same similarities that the draft does. The excitement. You get the fans involved."
