Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has "s-t the bed in the playoffs," and that's the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so.
While that may or not actually be the bottom line, former WWE champion and stalwart of wrestling's golden "Attitude" era did say that on his podcast. The Texas native went on to extol Romo's talent, but question his ability to command the NFL's most famous franchise.
"My problem with Dallas is I think Tony Romo is a damn good quarterback, but he (s--t) the bed at the most inopportune times. So when I look for leadership, I can't say that Tony Romo is the clear cut leader."
Austin expounded even further, somewhat poking fun at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' proclamation that Romo needs to spend "Peyton Manning-like" time at the Dallas facilities perfecting his craft.
"I just read in the newspaper that he was going to spend more Peyton Manning-like time in the film room. Now this is what, six, eight years into his career (he's entering his 10th year). He shoulda been doin' that from the get-go. So I think he's finally understanding what the game is about. He's inherently accurate, he's got a quick release, he doesn't have the strongest arm in the world but he can damn sure throw it. So he just needs to do some brain work."
While the wrestler's comments come off as harsh, Romo's playoff numbers do back up the Rattlesnake's complaints. Romo is 1-3 in four career playoff games. Although he has four touchdowns to just two interceptions, he's never thrown for more than 250 yards in any postseason game. He has reached that mark 66 times in his regular season career.
Romo signed a seven-year, $119 million deal with the Cowboys this offseason, so whether Austin likes it or not, Romo figures to be the man under center for quite some time. Perhaps he and Romo can chug some Steve-weisers and make amends.
