The Denver Broncos saw their season end in disappointing fashion against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs. Since then, the team has fired its head coach, lost its defensive coordinator, and faced numerous questions about the future of its star quarterback.

Peyton Manning dealt with a quad injury for the last month of the season and played poorly in most of those games, leading to speculation that he could retire. Rumors also swirled that he might leave the team and follow offensive coordinator Adam Gase to San Francisco if the latter got the head coaching job there.

Gase is not getting the 49ers job, so now people are back to wondering if Manning will simply hang up his cleats. According to Yahoo!, John Elway says that Denver is focused on winning a Super Bowl, and he expects Manning to be part of the chase for a title.

"There is no Plan B," said Elway of the Broncos Super Bowl aims.

As for Manning, Elway said, "Peyton's going to be involved. I'm going to talk to Peyton as we go through the process."

Many of Elway's remarks at his press conference this week sounded like they were indirectly aimed at Manning, possibly to try and sway the five-time MVP to return to the team. "The bottom line is we want him back and it's going to come down to what Peyton wants to do," said Elway.

Elway also added that Manning took a month or more to think about his future, possibly because he realized just how exhausted Manning was after the rigors of the NFL season. The longer Manning waits before deciding anything, the greater the odds are that he will return.

Elway made sure to mention that he will work to make sure that Manning is protected also. "Having been a quarterback, he knows that I'm going to take care of him and that offensive line," Elway said. "We always want to protect the quarterback. I think that changing things for those guys might help them also, and we'll do what we can do this offseason and try to help them also."

The Broncos have a lot of changes to make, and they need to make them smartly if they want to convince Manning to endure another season in Denver.
