While boxing awaits a decision on whether Floyd Mayweather Jr. will finally fight Manny Pacquiao this year, one top fighter is getting impatient-Amir Khan.
The British fighter believes he is the boxer best-suited to handing "Money" Mayweather the first loss of his career, but he is growing tired of waiting for the pound-for-pound king to make a decision.
"I want to fight in May and I want the Mayweather fight, but it's not getting any closer," Khan told Daily Mail.
"I've answered all the things Mayweather wanted me to do. He wanted me to fight at welterweight, I did that; he wanted to do a vote [to see who he would fight], I won the vote; he wanted me to beat a top guy in the division and I gave Devon Alexander a beating he'd never had before."
Khan's reputation has been stained by two knockout losses earlier in his career, and a controversial decision loss to Lamont Peterson that included two point deductions for shoving in Peterson's hometown. Khan has won his last three fights, however, including the last two at welterweight.
Khan also believes fighting him is worth the risk for Mayweather financially, owing to his large fan base in the UK and with Middle Eastern fight fans.
"There is a lot of money in a fight with me, not just in America, but he's trying to avoid me. He's avoiding two names in boxing, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan. Mayweather wants to keep his '0', he doesn't want to take the big fights. If he's not fighting the top guys but is fighting guys who are over the hill or not at their peak, he's going to be undefeated."
Unfortunately for Khan, it doesn't appear he'll have his wish granted. "We will make an announcement before the end of the month. I think it will happen," Pacquiao said. Speculation has it that the fight will be on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
