The St. Louis Rams finished the season strong after an underwhelming start, and it appears that they may become contenders just in time for a move across the country. Rams owner Stan Kroenke appears on track to build a stadium in Los Angeles that could lead to the team moving back to the city as soon as the 2016 season.

Last year, Kroenke purchased a 60-acre plot of land in Inglewood adjacent to Hollywood Park and The Forum. According to ESPN, Kroenke has now joined forces with the owners of Hollywood Park to construct and NFL stadium.

The Rams left Los Angeles following the 1994 season, as did the Raiders. There have been many attempts to get a team back to the city in the years since, but this is the first time that an actual owner of an NFL team has been involved in the process.

Stockbridge Capital Group owns the 238-acre Hollywood Park Site and already had plans for the site and have added an 80,000 seat stadium and a 6,000 performance venue to the plans. "We are excited to unveil an expanded plan that will bring a world-class sports and entertainment district to Hollywood Park," said Terry Fancher, founder of Stockbridge. "We are committed to working with [the Kroenke Group] to build a project that will put Inglewood back on the map as home of the truly great sports and entertainment venues."

The Rams are expected to convert their lease in St. Louis to a year-to-year deal that could allow them to leave if the city does not agree to the construction of a stadium to replace the Edward Jones Dome.
