TNA announced in a press release that the five-time TNA Heavyweight Champion is back on board and will help usher in Impact Wrestling's move to Destination America in 2015.

"TNA today announced Olympic Gold Medalist and TNA Hall-of-Fame member Kurt Angle has signed a new contract to remain an active TNA roster member," the company wrote in a press release, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com. "Kurt can be seen on IMPACT WRESTLING's new home, Destination America, during a special LIVE event from New York City on Wednesday January 7 at 9/8c."

TNA president Dixie Carter also commented on the new deal with Angle after nearly losing him to the WWE as a free agent.

"Kurt Angle's arrival nearly a decade ago put TNA on the map," Carter said. "Now Kurt leads a fresh, young IMPACT WRESTLING locker room into a whole new era on Destination America. Once Kurt steps inside those ropes there is no greater talent in professional wrestling."

Angle got his start in the WWE back in 1999 and achieved many accolades with the organization before departing in 2006. Angle then jumped ship to TNA in 2006 and has been a mainstay ever since.

There were reports that Angle was having negotiations with the WWE, but things apparently fell through and he opted to re-join TNA.

Angle said he was happy to be returning to TNA after contemplating bolting the organization.

"I'm extremely excited to remain with TNA Wrestling," Angle said. "The driving force behind my signing is the honesty, great communication and positive changes being made by Dixie Carter and [Executive Vice President] John Gaburick. Things are moving upward and forward at TNA, and 2015 will be a great one for all of us at IMPACT WRESTLING."

Angle, 46, can be seen when TNA Wrestling returns to the airwaves in its regular timeslot at 9 p.m. ET on Destination America on Jan. 16.
