Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET from Qualcomm Stadium the No. 24 USC Trojans (8-4) will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-3) in the Holiday Bowl on ESPN which can be live streamed free by clicking this link. Huskers fans can listen to the radio broadcast on News Radio 1110, while Trojans fans may do likewise by turning their dials to 710 ESPN.
Nebraska won't be coached in this bowl game by Mike Riley, following the firing of previous head coach Bo Pelini. Instead, the Cornhuskers will be led by Pelini's former assistant Barney Cotton. Nebraska was in the news for a short time because of Pelini's graphically worded parting shots at athletic director Shawn Eichorst, who elected to take the high road when asked recently about Pelini's dismissal.
We just, for whatever reason, weren't good enough in the games that mattered against championship-caliber opponents," Eichorst said. "And I didn't see that changing. It wasn't a lack of effort by him or his staff or our wonderful players, but I think new leadership is in order."
The new leadership will likely lean on the legs of running back Ameer Abdullah, who doubled his touchdown total from 2013 and piled up 18 scores to go with 1,523 yards on the ground. He's had four games in which he ran for more than 200 yards.
USC was a slight disappointment this season, but head coach Steve Sarkisian is ecstatic about the program's direction.
"Our future is ridiculously bright," Sarkisian said. "We're going to be really good, and we're not going anywhere."
