Steve Nash Ex-Wife: Nash Banning Wife From LA To Avoid Child Support

Alejandra Nash, the wife of Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash, is telling media outlets that Steve is blocking her from moving to Los Angeles with the couple's three children in an effort to avoid paying child support, according to reports.

Nash chose to join the Lakers over the New York Knicks because he reportedly saw it as closer to his children; however, now his ex-wife is attempting to move to Los Angeles bring them closer, only to have him impede the process.

The point guard is claiming that he may be traded by the Lakers or forced to retire, but Alejandra says his real reason is avoiding huge child support payments likely to be levied against him by California courts. According to Alejandra, Phoenix courts have not forced Nash's hand in terms of child support, and he is not currently paying any child support at all.

Nash's ex-wife also said he genuinely is strained by the distance between him and the kids but that his desire to save the child support dollars is overriding his parental instincts.

This news is coming after Nash completed what was likely the most trying season of his storied NBA career, one that includes back-to-back MVP awards from 2004-2006. Nash averaged just 12.5 points per game and 6.7 assists, the lowest of his career since the 1999-2000 season when he was still with the Dallas Mavericks.

Nash was also limited to 50 games this season, thanks to a string of injuries that began four games into the season when he fractured his fibula. Later in the year, he suffered hamstring problems that sapped his quickness late in the year. He missed time in the postseason and was very ineffective in the playoffs when he did suit up.
