Though rumors emerged to the contrary, the New York Yankees are reportedly not interested in making a trade for Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
Padres Looking To Make Deal With Phillies for Cole Hamels
According to ESPN, sources close to the situation have refuted a CBS Sports report that claimed the Yankees were in the mix of a trade for the slugging, but oft-injured shortstop.
New York entered the offseason in the market for a shortstop for the first time in nearly two decades after incumbent Derek Jeter retired following the 2014 campaign. Tulowitzki, who wears No. 2 in Colorado in honor of Jeter, was one rumored successor.
Yankees Not Expected To Bid For Free Agent RHP Max Scherzer
The Yankees already made a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks to land Didi Gregorius to take over at shortstop in 2015.
While general manager Brian Cashman and his staff did check in on Tulowitzki as the CBS Sports report indicated because the Rockies made him available in a trade, there is said to be nothing of note going on as far as a trade is concerned.
Tulowitzki, 30, is a dynamic player when he's on the field, but he is coming off of hip surgery and has averaged 88 games played over the last three years. This is certain to deter the Yankees, who have dealt with their fair share of injuries amid an aging roster in recent years.
New York is also unwilling to delve into the farm system it has tried to rebuild over the last few years to trade for a player who is injury prone and only getting older. The Bronx Bombers are looking to get younger and healthier.
Tulowitzki slashed .340/.432/.603 through 91 games last season before his injury with 21 homers and 52 RBI.
