Carmelo Anthony Torn Labrum: Scoring Champ Played 12 Games With Shoulder Injury

New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony played 12 playoff games with a partially torn left shoulder, according to the New York Daily News.

An MRI of Anthony’s left shoulder revealed a partially torn left labrum, a Knicks source told The News, and he may now need surgery that could keep him inactive anywhere from three to five months.

Some within the Knicks brass still are hopeful the injury will heal on its own and team officials have told him to rest over the next three to four weeks, at which time he will be reevaluated, according to The News.

Reports are Anthony has experienced chronic pain in the shoulder dating back to April 14, when he originally injured his arm in a game against the Pacers. Anthony then reinjured himself in Game 5 of the Knicks first round series against Boston and, according to The News, later reported the sensation of his shoulder popping out of the socket, which is common for such an injury.

Even though he refused to use the injury as excuse, Anthony’s shooting percentage noticeably dipped throughout the playoffs and in the Knicks second round loss to the Pacers he made just 65 of 150 shots.
